FAQ

Does SiteDocs send my site data to external servers?

Scan data (plugin names, settings, CPT configurations) is sent to your configured AI provider's API for documentation generation. No user data, order data, or customer information is included in the scan. Review your AI provider's data retention policy.

Can I use SiteDocs without an AI API key?

No. The documentation generation step requires an AI provider API key. Scanning is local, but writing the documentation requires AI.

How often should I regenerate documentation?

Whenever significant site changes are made (new plugins, ACF group changes, WooCommerce setting updates). Enable Auto-Generate for hands-free maintenance.

Can clients view the documentation?

Yes - add their role (e.g., editor) to Role Visibility. They will see the documentation viewer but not the settings or generation controls.

Does clearing documentation lose my manual edits?

Yes. Clear Documentation removes all content including manual edits. Use Regenerate Section on individual sections to preserve edits in other sections.

Can I add custom sections not covered by the scanner?

Yes - click Add Section in the documentation viewer to create a custom freeform section with a title and markdown body.

How much does API usage cost?

A full site scan with 10 sections typically uses 8,000–15,000 AI tokens. At OpenAI GPT-4o pricing ($0.005/1K output tokens), a full generation costs approximately $0.05–$0.15. Individual section regenerations cost significantly less.
