Does the user know I have switched to their account?
No. SwitchUser doesn't notify the user. SwitchUser Pro can email alerts about switches to an address you choose (for example your security team).
Can I switch to a user who is currently logged in?
Yes. Their own session isn't affected - both can be logged in at the same time.
What if I close the browser while switched?
The switch cookie stays valid for the Session Duration (48 hours by default). Open the site again and click Switch Back.
Can Shop Managers switch users?
Not by default - they don't have the edit_users capability. Check Shop Manager under Allowed Switcher Roles to let them switch into customer accounts.
Is there an audit log of switches?
The free plugin writes each switch to the PHP error log and fires the switchuser_switched and switchuser_switched_back actions for custom logging. SwitchUser Pro adds an audit log dashboard with CSV export.
Can I switch into another administrator?
No. Administrator accounts, and accounts with equal or higher privileges, can't be switched into - not even by other administrators. See Role Hierarchy.
Does it work on Multisite?
Yes. Switching works within each site, and users who are administrators on any site in the network are protected.
